honoring your rhythm. slow motion day.

Tomorrow is the equinox.

The halfway point between summer and winter solstice. The time when light and darkness are equal. If you live in the northern hemisphere, the days will be getting shorter and the nights longer. You’re entering into the winter. A time of nurturing and rest. A time to relax and tune inwards. If you are in the southern hemisphere, the days are going to get longer, nights shorter. You’re entering the summer. A time of focus and action. Celebration and play.

Mother Earth in her rhythm reminds me of my own.

I used to NOT be in tune with my rhythm. I was a walking head. I spent most of my time working on being productive and getting sizzle done. I was successful. I was a badass. I was miserable.

I discovered my spirit, my body, my sensations. A taste for something deeper, fuller. A whole new world opened. When I realigned with my rhythm instead of pushing myself, everything changed.

I was no longer frazzled.

Overwhelmed WAY less often.

More peaceful.

More creative.

More centered.

More fulfilled.

Rhythm reminds me I don’t need to do or take action all the time.

Western culture doesn’t necessarily admire taking time to slow down and nurture ourselves. Western culture is about productivity. Getting things done. Making stuff happen. Making your mark in the world. And yet to do that, we need the other side. Studies show you’re not the most productive when you work all the time or push. You’re the most productive when you take breaks. And lots of them.

Here’s the thing.

If you don’t listen. If you don’t tune inwards. If you don’t slow down, you’ll get shut down.If you don’t give your body and spirit the rest it needs, it will take what it needs.

So during the equinox time, think about what you need right now.

Do you need to slow down?

Unplug?

Rest?

Create?

Connect with your spirit?

What do you need?

There are resources available all around you. There is support holding you. Seen and unseen. Take the time to listen. And not just listen, but take action on what you need.
